Ver006| *On March 8th, the
wind had died away,and under a springlike sun IWD was
celebrated. This year it was characterized by an
epoch-making multinational event. It featured a stage, an exhibition, leaflets, demonstration songs, and so on bilingually. The issues raised during the event were from English speaking, Asian and Middle Eastern countries. *The stage started with Korean Drums at noon. The other performances were as follows: songs by a Filipina, a pantomime on the subject of women's issues in Afghanistan-this subject was the common theme for IWD in '98th around the world, songs by 'Wymyn,' feminist comedy (that was performed much better than we expected,excuse us!), and self-defense that the audience joined in with excitedly. All the performances were excellent! During the last performance, the audience danced in a circle, hand in hand to a Korean folk-dance song, then joined the parade. The big woman's statue "WYMYN", took the lead in the parade. We marched through the main streets of down town Nagoya(Sakae) with "WYMYN" who had lots of women's feelings, thoughts, wishes, and demands written on her body. *The exhibition corner was also very enriching. Paticipants on the day urged us to exhibit the displays at other events, they were so impressed. IWD also featured a Discussion Corner, and a Market place put on by various women's groups. I have been involved in lots of projects, but I've never heard of such a good response from so many different groups. |

built by Lisa Ginty and an international team ofwomen.
The project was introduced with these words:

was a warm, and informal area set aside to provide an opportunity
for discussion of issues of concern for women. Discussion leaders
were been organised to provide a focus on particular topics, at
other times the space was used by anyone wanting to share
opinions, and ask questions of others.
